My mother, Gloria Byrne Weddle, died on August 12th, 1996. It was one of the most traumatic and profoundly moving experiences of my life. In December of 2000 I wrote about it in an article for the San Francisco Chronicle Magazine. Six months later I wrote a companion piece about my father for Los Angeles Times Magazine. Like the article about my father, this one provoked a tidal wave of reactions from readers who wanted to share their experiences about the deaths of their parents.
